So you want to start an online business or blog? Perfect! But where do you start? I’ll tell you how to start your own business or blog with a few clicks for less than $100. Yes, you can start your own online business with less than $100. I did! Aside from running my own freelance graphic design business, I also run an accessories e-boutique over at www.labellaluxe.com.
Register Your Domain Name
The first thing you need to do is register a domain name. This will run you about $10-15 per year. Your domain name should be the same name as your business name or something that will easily identify your business. I purchase all of my domain names easily and affordably from www.godaddy.com.
Purchase Web Hosting
Now that you’ve got your very own domain name you’ll need some web hosting. What is web hosting? Well in layman’s terms, it’s pretty much “renting” some space on the World Wide Web, where you’ll hold all the files related to your website. You can also use www.godaddy.com for hosting, but I highly recommend Host Gator for all your web hosting needs. I have used them for the last 10 years in all my web related projects and this site is hosted using Host Gator. They offer exceptional 24/7 customer support and if you’re looking to run WordPress, they have an awesome 1-click installation so you don’t need to know any fancy web jargon or coding. You can pay as little as $5 a month or you can pay approx $50 per year for hosting depending on the package you choose.
That was less than $100 right? It took a few clicks and you were done right? You’re now ready to rock and roll and move forward with your business.
The next step is getting a design for your website established.
There are two ways to handle website design:
1. You can DIY (Do It Yourself)
2. Hire a designer to design a website for you.
We’ll discuss this in detail in the next article.

*This post contains some affiliate links. If you click and make a purchase, I’ll receive a very small commission to allow me to indulge in Starbucks every once in a while. These are services I currently use myself or have used in the past and would never recommend something I didn’t already find fabulous!

Great tips to get a blog going! I have these down pat…now I need to figure out if I want to switch to WordPress.org and how to monetize it!

booo your comment got sent to spam! LOL! Approved! If you’re looking to monetize, you def want to switch over to wordpress.org. The sooner the better because it will be harder later if you develop a really big following. You’ll know when you’re ready 🙂
