If you’re a beauty junkie and MakeupShayla is your friend in your head, then you’re one of many that was super excited to hear that she collabed with Tarte Cosmetics on their newest contour palette. It went on sale June 5th , on TarteCosmetics.com, and sold out within the hour. I was so happy I was able to get my hands on this palette. [Don’t worry, they restocked and you can get yours here]
Even though I don’t have a super deep skin tone, it is still very hard for me and other women of color, to find a good contour palette that is dark enough to contour, highlight and slay. Let’s get into the review of this palette.
I ordered this palette from www.TarteCosmetics.com, it shipped quickly and it came beautifully packaged. The box is purple [which is Shayla’s favorite color] and has gold writing and dots all over. There is a brief story on the back about her journey from makeup artist to beauty influencer.
The actual palette is gold and has a large mirror. There is 1 Blush, 1 Color Corrector, 2 Highlighters, and 2 Contour Shades. Overall I love the palette. This is something that I can either use everyday, date night with my husband or even when I go out with the girls. It can be as natural or as dramatic as you like. I love the smell of the palette; it smells like chocolate.
What I Liked
- Easy to transport for travel
- Can use everyday
- Great for nights out
- Contour colors are very pigmented
- Contour colors are easy to blend
- Smells like chocolate
- You can use this on your eyes too for an all-in-one palette
- Large mirror
What I Didn’t Like
The blush is the ONLY thing that was a fail for me in this palette. Since this palette is for deeper skin tones, the blush barely showed up on me.
Overall I love this palette. I have TONS of blushes I can choose from, so the blush not being extra vibrant, wasn’t a deal breaker for me. I’m mostly pissed that when this palette runs out, because I will be using this everyday, I will have NOTHING.
This is the entire contour palette in use [sans the blush, I used NARS LoveJoy instead] this past weekend for a birthday party + wine tour. It lasted ALL day with no touch ups needed. I did a natural contour with a dramatic lash [Eylure, and neutral lip by Colourpop in Cami [one of my FAVES]
